Nick Aldis captured the NWA World Hvt. Title at the Combat Zone Wrestling event in Sewell, N.J. tonight, ending the reign of Tim Storm. Storm got a polite ovation from the crowd during ring introductions. Aldis attacked him with a knee from behind at the bell and tossed him around early. They got pelted with a “boring” chant about two minutes in. Storm began a comeback with a boot to the face and a neckbreaker around 3:00. A sarcastic “Fight forever!” chant also broke out as Aldis returned to methodical offense against Storm. The finish came out of nowhere at 3:47. After the match, Aldis cut a heel promo on the fans, including calling them “mouth-breathing losers.” He listed himself in the company of Ric Flair, Terry Funk, Harley Race now. He said they’d spit on the sh– presented in the ring tonight before his match. He was cheered when he said he’d never return.
Footage is available of the entire match with this amateur video from the crowd HERE. Ring entrances and ring introductions for the NWA Title match commence around the five minute mark of this video.
Keller’s Analysis: Not sure what to make of that, but on the surface it appears to be a rather anticlimactic end to the NWA Title reign that was the subject of some excellent video features put together by Dave Lagana and William Patrick Corgan over the last couple months (“Ten Pounds of Gold”). The match quality was always going to be an issue with Storm, but this was about as bad an NWA Title match you’ll ever see. I am curious how the NWA follows up on this regarding Storm – either building to a rematch or just moving on.

Shortly thereafter ECW withdrew from the NWA and changed it’s name from Eastern to Extreme Championship Wrestling.
